1979 Kawasaki Z650

This is my Z650, I've had it for quite a few years now, it was bright pink when I got it and it quickly ended up black and now it's a subtle red, ha ha. Engine had the cylinder head changed to a 750 one as this was one of the old tuning methods, and when it's warm it runs quite well. Poor to get going when It's cold though, it really did need a rebore due to marks in the barrels but it just got a hone instead. The whole bike was in bits for about 4 years due to a divorce and house moves and I just wanted to use it so it went back together with a few changes, Metmachex swinging arm, SR 650 rear wheel etc.

This was it when I just finished it.

SR 650 rear mudguard will be going in because I don't like the other one.

The heart of the beast which is sadly knackered now, hardly any compresssion but not to worry, within the next couple of weeks a Z750 motor will take it's place. The 750 motor is sat waiting patiently in my garage. :-)

  4. I was looking at z 650s n it poped up I thought that's my bike in the pic then see the reg and it was the same reg thank god lol the bike has had a hard time I got it cuz the z750e engine that was in it messed up the starter clutch n the man I got it off changed the engine to a gpz750 engine with a oil cooler I had lots of old z650s about me so when I see it for sale I got it cheep took the gpz engine out with no rev drive and put in my best z650 engine with the points ignition from the old z750e engine that came with the bike as I got the bike with its first 750 engine you put in and the gpz engine that he put in .my plan it to use it now and strip when it's to cold to ride it and restore it to a black frame and panels tanks rear cowl polish the alloy swing arm up all in all you must of done a good job as it's still not bad now for it's year would send you pics but not sure how lol nice to get a bit of history on a bike lol

  5. That's great, it had a starting issue when I got rid of it, think it was carb related but I'd had it so long I couldn't bring myself to start working on it again. It was a great bike though, think I had it over 10 years. It would be good to see it all changed to a slightly less loud colour scheme. You can always contact me on david.porteus@btinternet.com I might have a couple of very early pictures I could let you have when I got it, bright pink and called Pink Panther.

  6. Hi Dave did you put the brand new wiring loom on the bike or do you remember where The wiring loom came from or who made it thanks mark

  7. Hi Mark, the loom was made by Ferrets Kustom Electrickery at great expense. The original loom had been chopped about so much it was ruined.

  9. Hi Mark, sounds great. Ferret has certainly put his prices up, he was expensive back then. He is very thorough though. Not just the loom, you get every switch rewired and even every bulb holder in the clocks etc.
Yes I'd love to see some pictures of it when it's done. david.porteus@btinternet.com is my e mail.
Look forward to seeing it Mark.
